The members of this year’s edition of Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list was chosen from over 2,000 entries, heavily researched by a team of reporters and vetted by an A-list of judges.
Out of the ASEAN 11 countries, 9 countries came out young entrepreneurs and innovators apart from Brunei and Timor Leste. The Forbes listed one Myanmar young entrepreneur named Htet Arkar Kyaw.
Who is Htet Arkar Kyaw?
Htet Arkar Kyaw is a cofounder and COO of GiantPay, a cross-platform mobile payment startup. GiantPay aims to mitigate against Myanmar’s dependence on informal loans — a common practice for more than half the country’s population– by allowing shop owners to accept digital payments such as debit, credit cards, and mobile money with a single app. In 2019, after Kyaw’s co-founder left the company for family reasons, GiantPay entered a partnership with ConceptX, a leading edutech startup in Myanmar.
It’s his first step to drive Myanmar forward by creating great solutions to help its sustainable development. After he discovered his passion in the tech sector in his 20s, he has been devoting most of his time in mastering the new technologies as much as he can. It is clear that every difficulty and obstacle can be solved or prevented through innovations and the next step in the technological advancement of human history cannot be done alone anymore. Thus, he believes those can only be achieved when the brightest and the most talented people from diverse communities and expertise come together altruistically.
His dad was an entrepreneur of his times. He was taught mostly by his father on managing a business when he was young, for there were not any business schools as we do, today in Myanmar. Along with managing a family business( gold & jewelry retail), he got a chance to learn more about his beliefs, techniques, and ways of taking calculated risks while pursuing realistic opportunities.
In most evenings, he loves to meet and engage with new people and discuss new ideas on developing solutions for underprivileged people of Myanmar. Otherwise, he loves spending time with his close friends and family, reading books or digging through some TEDtalks, Netflix or browse youtube.
